Essentials of Blog Writing for Students

Blog writing refers to online writing intended for a wide audience on any topic. It allows for self-expression, social connections, and potential income. To start blogging, choose a niche, find a blogging platform like WordPress, choose a domain name, design the blog, create engaging content regularly, and promote the blog. Effective blogging requires constant reading, focusing on a compelling central idea for a narrow target audience, writing prolifically even if poorly at first, and continually improving through practice.

Tips on Writing
• Start by reading: Become a prolific reader
• ““If you are “not creative,” if you are the sort of person that gets
uncomfortable being creative or has been persuaded you’re not capable,
don’t worry about it. Just stretch the sweatshirt in your spare time, watch
the creative things other people have done, keep up with the state of the art.
Then when you do your “not creative” thing, most people will think it’s pretty
creative indeed.”
• Obsess over your big idea
• Umberto Eco says, “Writing is research”. You must read like a historian, like a
lawyer who is looking for loopholes in the documents, like a jealous partner
who reads between the lines of each message.
• Priorities Impact Over Reach: “Will people notice me if I disappear?”:
Narrow down your target audience.
• “Stake out the smallest market you can imagine. The smallest market
that can sustain you, the smallest market you can adequately serve.
This goes against everything you learned in capitalism school, but in
fact, it’s the simplest way to matter”.
• Dare to write poorly
• “The process advice that makes sense to me is to write. Constantly. At
length. Often. Don’t publish everything you write, but the more you
write, the more you have to choose from.”
Keep on Writing
• “Write poorly. Write poorly, write
more. Write more, write more.
Sooner or later, if you write
poorly long enough, you will
write well.”
• “Try again. Fail again. Fail
better.”
Closing Thoughts
• When you boil down these lessons, it comes down to four simple
principles:
• Read lots and bombard your brain with inspiration.
• Condense your writing into one big compelling idea. (i.e. Know what
you’re trying to say)
• Contextualise your idea for a narrow niche to maximise its impact.
(i.e. Know who you’re talking to)
• Start writing!
