• Also known as “New Music” or Modern
Music
• According to National Artist Ramon Santos,
PhD, contemporary music in the Philippines
refers to the compositions that have adopted
ideas and elements of 20th century Western
music, as well as the latest trend and musical
styles in the entertainment industry.
Characteristics
A good song has the following characteristics:
• It has catchy phrase
• It arouses a sympathetic response
• It has a well-crafted structure
• It uses figurative language or phrase that
produce distinct mental images.

to glorify the beauty of nature, courtship
music, welcome songs, and man’s strong
