Metrological Sensor Design for Defense

The document summarizes a student project to design a metrological sensor for monitoring temperature, humidity, wind pressure, wind speed, and location on a VT-5 tank. The project aims to monitor environmental conditions at battlefields and industries. The group tested sensors for temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed, location and developed an IoT application with MQTT cloud server to display readings. The system will help arrange safety measures and setup defense machines based on climate data.

Introduction
 Metrological sensor are used to understand and measure
weather conditions (Temperature,humidity&cross wind air
pressure).
 At Battlefield we need to know temperature, humidty &air
pressure and cross wind to arrange safety precautions and
to setup defense machines like tank.
 Climate change may cause destructive effects.
 In industries these parameters are so critical for working
and in the term of enviromental Safety.

Power supply

Power supply
• The 230V AC supply is first stepped down to 12V AC
using a step down transformer.
• This is then converted to DC using bridge rectifier.
• The AC ripples is filtered out by using a capacitor and
given to the input pin of voltage regulator 7805.
• At output pin of this regulator we get a constant 5V
DC which is used for MC and other ICs in this
project.

11
Temperature /Humidity sensor Interface
with Node MCU
The DHT11 is a basic digital
temperature and humidity sensor.
It uses a capacitive humidity sensor
and a thermistor to measure the
surrounding air, and spits out a
digital signal on the data pin (no
analog input pins needed).
Its fairly simple to use but requires
careful timing to grab data.

12
BMP180 Pressure sensor Interface with
Node MCU

13
BMP180 Pressure sensor Interface with
Node MCU
 BMP180 is one of sensor of BMP XXX series. It is designed
to measure Barometric Pressure or Atmospheric pressure.
 BMP180 is a high precision sensor designed for consumer
applications. Barometric Pressure is weight of air applied on
everything.
 The air has weight and wherever there is air its pressure is
felt. BMP180 sensor senses that pressure and provides that
information in digital output
 . Also the temperature affects the pressure and so we need
temperature compensated pressure reading. To compensate, the
BMP180 also has good temperature sensor.
14
NodeMCU

15
NodeMCU
It is open source IOT platform which has built in wifi.

We can directly interface sensors with this controller.

The operating voltage is 5v and maximum output

voltage of GPO is 3.3v.

It has one analog and 8 digital pins.

16
Wind sensor Interface with Node MCU
Wind sensor is a device used for measuring wind
speed and direction. It is also a common weather
station instrument.

17
GPS 6M interface with node NodeMCU
NEO-6M is GPS module that allows to get raw GPS data in
NMEA format. The raw data needs to parsed to obtain GPS
information such as location coordinates (latitude and
longitude), altitude, speed, date and time in UTC, etc

Cloud Information
We have studied many web based
cloud systems .
 we have seen pros and cons in all
systems , free cloud service with many
extra features we have short listed the
MQTT based cloud server which
provides us extra functionality and
totally free.

19
Cloud Information
We have short listed MQTT based cloud server in
which we have used cayenne-based services because it
is totally free and have many extra features.

We have used blynk IOT platform and also used the
BLYNK cloud server. This server provides a free of
charge cloud parameters display and its control system.
We can select the widgets from the app which we want
to use it.

20
MQTT based Blynk Cloud

 By using blynk server we can connect to any hardware like arduino,

raspberry pi , node MCU and esp32. We can use any board to connect. We
just need internet SSID and password.
In this application we must login first and then used to design project
21
MQTT based Blynk Cloud

Blynk provides the complete and compact IOT platform in which we can
connect sensors, boards and modules with wi-fi and display its values on
blynk application.
Blynk has its own server and library, we can use blynk application for IOT
display. This application would provide the cloud service.

Applications
 We mainly use this gadget for defense purpose.

 By using this we can also monitor weather conditions .

 We can use this to monitor the location.

 This can also be use to protect the enviroment .

 At wind mill power station with the help of

metrological sensor we can measure the wind
pressure.
25
Future Work
 As the world is going fast, technology is being increasing
day by day.
 In future, more sensitive sensors will be designed.
 As the coming Era is era of electrical vehicels So,we need
high quality sensitive sensors in future for safety of
elcetric vehicles.
 In future ,By designing high Quailty sensors we can also
predict the upcoming weather conditions and save society
from these disasters.

26
Conclusion
The sensor interfacing and calibrations is tedious job and we are learner,
we have studied many tutorials, data sheets to understand these. We have
used temperature and humidity sensor factory calibrated, which we
don’t need to calibrate further.
The GPS Module used Ublox protocol for extracting the data from
satellites. The GPS provides us the direction, latitude, longitudes, date
and time.
For display we have used IOT cloud server which is Blynk cloud server
and we don’t need to turn ON the monitoring display continuously.
We have faced problems in sensors reading but Node Mcu has extensive
help given on website, with the help of supervisor and internet we have
sort out all issue and make the project functional.
