Romeo and Juliet

Act 3 sees escalating conflict between the Montagues and Capulets. Mercutio and Tybalt taunt and fight, and Romeo accidentally allows Tybalt to fatally stab Mercutio as he tries to intervene. Enraged by Mercutio's death, Romeo then kills Tybalt in a duel and is banished by the Prince rather than face execution. Juliet learns of Tybalt's death and Romeo's banishment and grieves the loss of her cousin and separation from her love. Meanwhile, Lord Capulet pressures Juliet to marry Paris just days later, threatening to disown her if she refuses.

What is Romeo
and Juliet?
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy
written by William Shakespeare
early in his career about the
romance between two Italian
youths from feuding families. It
was among Shakespeare's most
popular plays during his
lifetime.
ACT 3
SUMMARY
ACT 3, SCENE
Mercutio and Tybalt taunt and1insulted eacher other and then
begins to fight. Romeo, attempting to restore peace, throws
himself between the combatants. Romeo draws his sword to try
to intervene, but he accidentally creates a clear path for Tybalt's
sword to reach Mercutio's body. Tybalt stabs Mercutio under
Romeo's arm, and as Mercutio falls, Tybalt and his men hurry
away. Mercutio dies, cursing both the Montagues and the
Capulets. Because of anger to the death of Mercutio, Romeo
challenges Tybalt in a duel, where Romeo killed Tybalt as a
revenge on Mercutio's death. The Prince arrives and, on
hearing the full story, banishes Romeo rather than have him
executed.
ACT 3, SCENE
2
Juliet longs for Romeo to come to her. Juliet's nurse
told her what happened to Tybalt and Romeo. The
Nurse told juliet that she that Romeo has killed
Tybalt and has been banished. Juliet at first feels
grief for the loss of her cousin Tybalt and verbally
attacks Romeo, but then renounces these feelings
and devotes herself to grief for Romeo's
banishment.
ACT 3,SCENE 3
A frantic Romeo pays Friar Lawrence a
visit. The Friar tells Romeo the somewhat
good news: he won't face death, but
because he killed Tybalt, Romeo can
never return to Verona. Romeo doesn't
think that's such good news: he'd rather
be dead than separated from Juliet.
ACT 3, SCENE
4
Paris asked Capulet about the engagement of
him with juliet and when he's about to leave
when Capulet calls him back and makes what
he calls “a desperate tender of my child's
love”. Capulet says he thinks his daughter will
listen to him, then corrects himself and states
that he is sure Juliet will abide by his decision.
ACT 3, SCENE
5
Juliet refuses to marry and her father threatens
to disown her. Juliet begs her mother to help her
but she refuses and leaves Juliet with the the
Nurse, who also tries to convince her to marry
Paris. Then, Juliet asks Friar Laurence what to
do since she doesn't want to marry Paris. The
friar made a plan so the marriage will not be
done by giving Juliet a poison so she can take
her life away before the wedding.

wanted to wait for 2
years in act 1?
