a public speech and called for an end to racism
in the US with these words:

According to Ray, one negative effect of TV on
family relationships is “babysitter effect”, which
relates the TV addiction of children between 1

Paraphrase Explanation
Source: Harry Sloan. 1998. «A flair for Language»
What is the secret of such amazing linguistic talents? Fazah doesn’t claim to
be special, though he says his memory is "like a photographic camera", and
he admits to a good deal of study. Anyone can speak a foreign language, he
thinks. You need to spend 30 minutes each day listening carefully to the
sounds of a native speaker, another 30 minutes studying the grammar and
then 15 minutes reciting the sounds - a very important step.

Paraphrase with citation: Sloan claims that a person has to allocate half an
hour for listening to a native speaker and another half an hour for studying
the grammar and 15 minutes for pronunciation (1998).
Paraphrases
• Paraphrasing involves putting a text from an outside
source into your own words. It is usually 1-3 sentences
and about the same size. The paraphrased info should
be accurate.
• You should give citations.
• Don’t change the meaning of the text and add or
remove any new ideas/ comments!
• Don’t replace a few words by synonyms. Instead
change the whole structure of the sentence, towards
simpler.

• “In the United States, about six out of ten students in graduate
schools are women.  As a result, the Census Bureau expects that
more women than men will hold professions such as doctors,
lawyers and professors.” (Women Edge Past Men in Getting
Doctorates, 2010, Voice of America)
• It is claimed in the article “Women Edge Past Men” that women
make up 60 percent of graduate students in the US. This leads to an
expectation on the Census Bureau that the future positions, for
instance in the field of medicine, law and academia, will be
dominated by more women (2010).
