Pre-Treatment:
Pre-Chlorination
Coagulation
Flocculation
Settling
Filtration
Pre-Chlorination:
Pre-chlorination in the inlet water for the purpose of disinfection.
The primary objectives of the pre chlorination of raw water, is to control the
growth of algae and other microorganisms. Otherwise such growth would lead to
the following consequences:
Interference with the process of coagulation and flocculation, hence an increase in
the coagulant dosages.
Slime growth in the filters. Thus leading to formation of mud balls in the media. This
would reduce the filter efficiency and interferes with proper backwashing.
Advantages :
Chlorine dioxide is effective over a broad pH range.
Chlorine dioxide has 2.5 times the oxidizing capability of Chlorine.
Required contact time for Chlorine dioxide is lower compared to Chlorine
Chlorine dioxide destroys phenols and its derivatives.
Chlorine dioxide has the ability to penetrate and remove biofilm formed and kill
bacteria, spores and viruses.
Chlorine dioxide is less corrosive than chlorine and does not hydrolyse to form
acid.
ClO2 Generation:
In the generator unit, Chlorine dioxide is generated by a chemical reaction
that occurs when a controlled volume of precursor chemical (NaClO2) is
combined with a water stream containing Hydrochloric Acid.

Coagulation:
Coagulation with alum dosage in Flash mixer and downstream channel.
Coagulation is the chemical water treatment process used to remove solids
from water, by manipulating electrostatic charges of particles suspended in
water. This process introduces small, highly charged molecules into water to
destabilize the charges on particles, colloids, or oily materials in suspension.
Flocculation :
Flocculation with Poly dosing in Flocculator upstream channel.
Polyelectrolyte dosed as coagulant aid accelerates the flocculation process
producing dense and rapid settling flocs.
Flocculation is a process by which a chemical coagulant added to the water acts to
facilitate bonding between particles, creating larger aggregates which are easier to
separate. It is the process which neutralize particle are in contact with each other,
so as to promote their resulting in increased size.
Settling:
Settling is an operation that removes suspended particles from the water to
be treated. It is a physical process that consists to separate particles of
higher density than water from the liquid. These particles are recovered at
the bottom of the tank..

Filtration:
A sand-anthracite filter or dual media filter/multi-media filter is primarily used for the
removal of turbidity and suspended solids as low as 10-20 microns. Sand is used to remove
the suspended particles and anthracite is used to remove the odour and colour etc. to
make the water fit for different applications. Gravels and pebbles are provided to support
to both the media.
