DEFINITION

Descriptive Text is
a text which says what a person or a thing is like.

(teks yang menjelaskan gambaran seseorang atau


benda)
Description is about sensory experience—how something
looks, sounds, tastes. Mostly it is about visual experience, but
description also deals with other kinds of perception.

The descriptive text is meaningful text that describes the


experience related to the senses, such as what shape, sound,
taste is. Most descriptive text is about visual experience, but
in fact the experience other than the sense of sight, we can
also use it to make descriptive text.
Generic Structure
1. Identification :
Identifies phenomenon (person, place, or thing) that will be
described. (berisi tentang identifikasi hal / seorang yang akan
dideskripsikan.)
2. Description :
Describes parts, qualities, characteristics, etc (berisi tentang
penjelasan / penggambaran tentang hal / seseorang dengan
menyebutkan beberapa sifatnya.)
Purpose of Descriptive Text

– To describe person, thing or place in


specific
– To describe a particular person, thing or
place.
The Characteristics / Language Feature of Descriptive Text:
1. Specific participant : memiliki obyek tertentu, tidak bersifat umum dan
unik
(hanya ada satu) misalnya : Bandengan beach, my house, Borobudur
temple, uncle Joko
2. Penggunaan adjective (kata sifat) untuk memperjelas noun (kata benda)
misalnya : a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in
jepara dll
3. Penggunaan simple present tense : Pola kalimat yang digunakan adalah
simple present karena menceritakan fakta dari obyek deskripsi.
4. Action verbs : terdapat kata kerja yang menunjukkan sebuah kegiatan
(aktifitasnya bisa dilihat) misalnya : run, sleep, walk, cut dll.
Mount Bromo
Identification Paragraph
Bromo is one of mountains in Java that is known around
the world. As one of the special tourism places in Java.
Bromo Mountain is not only rich of its natural beauty but
also in harmony with the local people around it.

In Bromo, the visitors can enjoy both the beauty of the


nature and also the culture in that area because Bromo is not
simply a mountain but also an important place for ritual
ceremony of Hindu.
Description Paragraph
Located around 2,5 hours from Malang city, Bromo is one of
active volcano mountain which is a part of the Bromo Tengger
Semeru National park.

The beauty of Bromo can be seen clearly from the top of


Penanjakan Mountain which is close to Bromo and has higher level
(2,770 meters). Bromo itself is only 2,392 meters.

Eventhough Bromo is not too high volcano mountain, but the


history of the eruption was so dramatic. The sands around it which
people called the sea of sands (segara wedi) are the proof that this
mountain had ever been killing the life surrounded that area.
The name of Bromo is taken from the name one of the God
of Hindu, Brahma.

People of Tengger has a myth about that mountain that


makes it has mystical nuance. But it is more than myth as long
as people still believe that by creating Kasada festival every year,
they express their gratitude to God in a symbolic way by
throwing vegetables, cattle, and also money as an offering in the
Bromo’s crater.

in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, USA at 13 December 1989. She is a
music country singer. She is also my inspiration and role model.
Taylor Swift loves to sing since childhood. Her first song is “Lucky
You” which she wrote while still sitting in school.
Description Paragraph
Taylor Swift is very beautiful. She is tall and her skin is white, her eyes
is blue. Her nose is sharp, she has curly hair, and its color is blond. Taylor
Swift won many award such as Album of the Year for Fearless, as well as
Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song for
“White Horse”. She also is the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for
“You Belong with me”.

Taylor has taught me many things such us to be fearless, to always


fight for our dreams no matter what, to know that if I’m different that’s a
good thing and I don’t have to change that, to be myself, to never give up
on my dreams.
