TOURISM SECTOR OF INDIA
The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2019 ranked India 34th out
of 140 countries overall. It mentions that India has quite good air transport
infrastructure (ranked 33rd), particularly given the country's stage of
development, and reasonable ground and port infrastructure (28th). The

the development and promotion of tourism. In the process, the Ministry
consults and collaborates with other stakeholders in the sector including
various central ministries/agencies, state governments, union territories and
private sector representatives. Concerted efforts are being made to promote
niche tourism products such as rural, cruise, medical and eco-tourism. The
Ministry of Tourism maintains the Incredible India campaign focused on
promoting the tourism in India.
INCREDIBLE INDIA
Incredible India is the name of an international tourism
campaign maintained by the Government of India since 2002,
to promote tourism in India. Before 2002, the Indian
government had regularly formulated policies and prepared
pamphlets and brochures for the promotion of tourism,
however, it had not supported tourism in a concerted fashion.
In 2002, the tourism ministry made a conscious effort to bring
in more professionalism in its attempts to promote tourism. It
formulated an integrated communication strategy with the aim
of promoting India as a destination of choice for the
discerning traveller. Creating a huge impact with the
campaign, India has emerged as the fastest growing market in
the Asia-Pacific region in terms of international tourist
spending.
