Introduction:
•Constructivism is based on the idea that people
actively construct or make their own knowledge,
depending upon their own experiences as a learner.
•Its one of the recent trend in teaching.
•Its basically a theory based on observation and study
about how people learn and gain knowledge from their
own experience.
•Piaget’s constuctive theory has more impact on
learning theories and teaching methods.
Nature of leaning process
• Learning is an active, social process
•Social constructivism suggest that knowledge is
constructed in social context
•In social constructivism the process of sharing
individual perspective is called collaborative
explanation result in learners constructing
understanding together that wouldn’t be possible
alone.
•Social constructive learning is an active
process ,were learners has should discover
principles, concept and fact for themselves.
•It encourage guess work and spontaneous
thinking in learner.
•Its not something to be discovered, it
already exist in the world, only the learner
with is active learning with people in the
society he create.
Characteristics of constructivist Teaching
1. The learner are actively involved
2. The environment (classroom environment) is
democratic.
3. The activities are student centered and interactive
4. The teacher facilitate a process of learning in which
student are encouraged to be responsible and
autonomous.
Classroom activities of constructive learning:
•Student work in group
•Learning and knowledge are interactive and self motivated.
Activities of constructive learning
(i) Experimentation
(ii)Research projects
(iii)Field trips
(iv)Film
(v)Class discussion
(i)Experimentation:
Student perform individual experiment and then come together
as a class to discuss the result.
(ii)Research Project:
Student research a topic and can present their finding in the class
(iii)Field trips:
Student are taken for trip followed by class discussion.
(iv) Film:
Student visualize the learning content and it invoke his learning
ability by seeing.
(v)Class discussion:
Student present their perspective about the topic in front of
others.
Role of Teacher:
• Teacher promote and facilitate the
discussion.
•Teacher guide students by asking
questions that will lead them develop their
own conclusions on the subject.
Method of assessment:
The assessment is not only based on test
but also on observation of student,
student work, way of participation in
discussion, student idea and concept of
topic.
Conclusion:
• Constructive learning is one of the modern
method of teaching.
•Its student oriented
•Improve student knowledge.
