Polygon Construction in Engineering Drawing

This document provides an overview of a 7-week course on engineering drawing and CAD. Week 1 is an introduction. Weeks 2-5 cover topics like line problems, polygons, tangency, orthographic views, and isometric drawings. Week 6 covers computer-aided design. Week 7 focuses on geometric constructions, including constructing straight lines, points, polygons, triangles, circles, regular shapes, and bisecting lines. The document provides examples of geometric construction exercises students will complete.

GEOMETRICAL CONSTRUCTION
Introduction
• Geometrical construction is very important in
a basic form of a drawing.
• They are form from single or combination of
lines to form various type of geometry
• Before start the geometrical chapter, student
have to identify types of geometry and
methods to do so.

EXERCISE
To Bisect a Line
• Draw the given line AB. With centers A and B
and Radius R greater than half of AB, draw
arcs to intersect at C and D. Join CD, when E
will be the mid point of the line. Also CD will
be perpendicular to AB
Draw a line AB 80mm
long and bisect it.
Draw a line AB 165 mm long and
divide it in the proportion 3: 4: 2
Using the angles of 45 and 60 set squares as a
basis, construct the following angles by bisection
a) 22 ½ d) 112 ½
b) 15 e) 37 ½
c) 52 ½ f ) 146 1/4
A triangle ABC stands on side AB as
base and has the following
dimension: AB 89 mm, AC 76
mm, angle CAB 67 ½ . Construct
the triangle and draw the
inscribed circle.
Construct a triangle
ABC on AB as base
with AB 70 mm,
AC 57mm, BC
76mm and draw
the circumscribing
circle
Construct a
regular
hexagons to the
following
dimensions:
a) 90 mm across
flats
b) 95 mm across
corner
Draw two regular
octagons:
a) one 76 mm across
flats and
b) the other 82 mm
across corners
Construct a regular pentagon with sides 32 mm
Draw a regular heptagon with sides
38 mm long
