Voltage Divider Bias Circuit Overview

This document discusses voltage divider biasing with a dual power supply. It begins with an introduction to voltage divider biasing and its use for DC biasing of bipolar junction transistors. It then shows the circuit diagram of a voltage divider bias configuration with a dual power supply and describes the exact and approximate methods for analyzing the circuit. It provides calculations for determining Thevenin's voltage and resistance, the base and collector currents, and the output voltage. Finally, it outlines the advantages of having a dual power supply for voltage divider biasing, such as increased stability and lower heat dissipation, as well as the disadvantages, such as added cost and complexity.

Introduction
• voltage divider bias, is a method used for the dc biasing of bipolar
junction transistors (BJT) in a simple amplifier circuit.
• The circuit usually consists of biasing resistors in a voltage
divider network whose values are determined through circuit analysis.
• Voltage divider bias is the most popular and used way to bias a transistor.
• For the DC analysis of voltage divider configuration we have two method
Exact Method (using Thevenin’s Theorem)
Approximation Method (neglecting base current)

Exact Analysis
• Circuit Diagram of Voltage Divider Bias with Dual Power Supply
• The given circuit can be redraw for better understanding and calculation of Thevenin's
voltage and resistance
Calculation of Thevenin's voltage (Vth)
• Vth is the voltage across the point as shown in the figure.
• Here Vth is calculated by applying voltage divider rule.
Calculation of Thevenin’s resistance (Rth)
• For the calculation of Rth, we will replace all the active source by their
internal resistance and find Rth across the point as shown in the
figure.
Draw the Thevenin's equivalent circuit
with Vth and Rth
• We draw the equivalent Thevenin's circuit as shown in the figure

Approximate Method
Advantages of voltage divider biasing with
dual power supply
• The biggest advantage of the voltage divider is that it is simple, and it is Simplest
method to measure voltage by dividing and measuring small proportion if larger
voltage.
• Main voltage is many times too high to be directly measured, when this method is
handy and convenient
• It helps to lower down the level, and it will give a safe measurement while reading it.
•  it lowers the heat dissipation on the component such as the resistor.
• It allows one to obtain a voltage needed from a higher voltage source. And can allow
for a driving source a higher impedance to work into.
• The Voltage divider Bias has Resistor in The emitter. This Emitter Resistor increases
the input impedance and stability also which is useful for stable Q point Operation.
• The Q-point value remain fixed more in voltage divider configuration .
Disadvantages of voltage divider biasing with
dual power supply
• Measurement only as accurate as the components used for dividing the
voltage, which introduce their own uncertainty.
• If resistance dividers are used, they introduce a small power loss.
• The ratio may be again affected by voltmeter resistance, which adds
up to uncertainty.
• It add component cost and space
