3500B SERIES ENGINES
The skirt and crown is
joined with a large
diameter piston pin with
snap rings on either
sides
3500B SERIES ENGINES
Inner surface is induction
hardened for improved
wear
Bores are precision
honed to reduce friction
b/w liner walls and piston
rings
3500B SERIES ENGINES
Separate head for each
cylinder
Each head is fitted with
valve guides and seats for
four valves
3500B SERIES ENGINES
6mm larger diameter than
3500 conventional engine to
handle 20% higher injection
pressure
98mm bore size
Three lobes per cylinder

Front gear train
provides power to
fuel pump, oil pump
and auxiliary pump
3500B SERIES ENGINES
Rear gear train provides
power to cam shaft and
strengthened to drive
larger cam shaft and
heavier valve train
Increased loading on the
gears due to higher fuel
injection pressure has
necessitated an increase
in the width of the rear
gears

The 3500B’s intake and exhaust system controls the amount of air
available for combustion. The system includes a high-mount
aftercooler and low-inertia turbochargers-two on V-8 engines, two
on all marine models-and four on V-12 and V-16 EPG versions. Air
flow is the same on both sides of the engine. Turbochargers draw
intake air though air cleaners, compressing it for improved
combustion, then forcing the compressed air to the aftercooler.
