What is Tupperware?
Tupperware is a home products line that includes preparation, storage, and serving products for the
kitchen and home. In 1942, Earl Tupper developed his first bell-shaped container; the brand products
were introduced in the year 1946 to the public.

The term "Tupperware" is often used generically to refer to plastic or glass food storage containers with
snap close lids.

Tupperware develops, manufactures, and internationally distributes its products as a wholly owned
subsidiary of its parent company Tupperware Brands. As of 2007, it was marketed by means of
approximately 1.9 million direct salespeople on contract.

In 2013, the top marketplace of Tupperware was Indonesia, which topped Germany as the second.
Indonesia's sales in 2013 were more than $200 million with 250,000 sales persons.

Marketing Strategy
Our marketing strategy is the three P’s:
• Product – Tupperware products carried a lifetime guarantee. Any damage to the product could be replaced at any
point of time anywhere in the world.
• Party Plan - Tupperware used a direct selling method called the “party plan”. In this strategy the women dealer
approaches a lady and asks her to host a party at her place, the investment in the party was borne by the hostess.
The Tupperware women demonstrates the benefits and usages of the products to the invitees to the party. And the
hostess gets a free gift of Tupperware product. This method allows the Tupperware products to be demonstrated
physically and their utility explained and by this process they justify the reason for the higher costs of the products.
• People - Tupperware believed that there business success was through people therefore Brownie had said “built the
people, and they will build the business”. They had reward system for employees. They organized three social
events per month.
Suggestions for advertising
• Consider a “House Calls” program. This takes some care and thought, but properly done, many
retailers find that virtually every house-call will result in a sale. If you don’t have time to do this
yourself, assign a fashion-minded consultant to develop a program and consider hiring an
industry consultant who has experience in this area.
•Purchase a list of prospective customers fitting your target profile. Tell your story, present your
unique factors and offer customers something special to bring them in. Capture the names of
people who respond.
•Prepare a handout for customers. If they leave the store without buying, be sure they take your
unique story with them.
