Essential Elements of Product Design

Product design determines the shape, configuration, and pattern of a product. It is the foundation for all subsequent manufacturing and production processes. The product designer creates a blueprint design using paper and pencil, which then guides the manufacturing activity. Product design must consider both form and function - the shape and appearance as well as how the product will work. Good design meets customer requirements and expectations, is reliable, easy to produce, maintain and repair, ensures quality, minimizes costs, and is safe. The design process considers marketing, product, economic, and production factors to create a profitable and competitive product.
