Wire Rope Selection for Mining Applications

This document discusses selecting wire ropes for mine hoist applications. It provides two questions: the first asks to select a wire rope to lift a 55kN load 300m at 500m/min acceleration over 10 seconds. The second asks to select a wire rope for a standard strand to raise a 10kN load 400m, achieving 20m/min linear speed over a 15m distance.

WIRE ROPES

Q1) Select a wire rope for vertical mine hoist to lift a load of 55kN from
a depth of 300m. Rope speed of 500m/min is to be attained in 10seconds.

Q2) Select a suitable wire rope of a standard strand to raise a load of

10kN through 400m. Load has to achieve a desired linear speed of
20m/min while traversing through a distance of 15m from the start.
