What is song ?
Song is a composition made up of lyrics and music.
The social function of song are:
• To entertain the listeners.
• To teach moral value through the lyrics of the songs.
• To express personal feeling.
Structure :
• Intro
The introduction establishes melodic, harmonic, and/or rhythmic related to the main body of song.

• Verse
It is the section of the song structure that tells the story. This is the exposition, describing the scene or the person,
or an emotion.

• Chorus
A chorus is the most repeated section, so it’s the easiest remembered. A chorus is the summary of the song’s story.

• Bridge
This is the part of the song that shifts. It can suddenly change tempo, or volume, or instrumentation.

• Coda
This is the end of the road for the song. It can repeat the intro, chorus or a refrain.
Language Feature :
• Rhyming words : is a repetition of similar sounds (not letters).
Example : I fell right through the crack
Now I’m trying to get back

• Figurative Language : simile, metaphor, personification and


hyperbole.

• Some songs use slang word (gonna, wanna, etc.)

• Simile : is a figurative language that makes a comparison,
showing similarities between two different things. It is a direct
comparison using the help of words “like” or “as”.
Example : Her cheecks are red like rose.

• Metaphor : is a figurative language that makes an implicit,


implied or hidden comparison between two things that are
unrelated, but which share some common characteristic.
Example : Her dance is a great poem
• Personification : is a figurative language in which a thing, an
idea or animal is given human attributes.
Example : The wind whispered through dry grass.

• Hyperbole : is a figurative language that involves exaggeration


of ideas.
Example : I called her a million times.
