Introduction to Adobe Flash
Introduction
• Adobe Flash (formerly Macromedia
Flash) is a multimedia platform used
to add animation, video, and
interactivity to web pages. Flash is
frequently used for advertisements
and games.
• Flash manipulates vector and raster
graphics to provide animation of
text, drawings, and still images. It
supports bidirectional streaming of
audio and video, and it can capture
user input via mouse, keyboard,
microphone, and camera. Flash
contains an Object-oriented
language called ActionScript.
CREATE A NEW FLASH DOCUMENT
When you first start flash, you will be presented with
a window to open a Flash document, create a new
Flash document, or start from a template. Click on
Flash File (ActionScript 2.0) to create a new blank
Flash document.

DOCUMENT PROPERTIES
When creating a new blank Flash document, set the document
stage size immediately. Changing the stage size later may
alter the position of your Flash objects. To set the stage size,
click the Modify menu and select Document…. You can also
set the stage background color and frame rate.
Set how fast the Flash
Ctrl J document will play.

Basic element in the environment of
Adobe Flash CS:
Stage
• Contain all of the objects that are part of the movie that will
be seen by your viewer.
• It shows the object behaves within the movie and how they
interact with each other.
• You can resize the stage and change the background color.
Timeline
• Used to organize and control the movie’s content by
specifying when each object appears on the stage.
• Indicates where you are at any time within the movie and
allows you to insert, delete, select and move frames.
Panels
• Used to view, organize and modify
object and features in a movie. For
example , the property inspector( also
called properties panel)
Tools panel
• Contain a set of tools used to draw
and edit graphic and text.
• It divided into 4 section; Tools, View,
Colors and Options.
Tools
Tools create the content of a movie.
– Selection tools: Select, scale, distort,
rotate objects
– Drawing tools: Draw, paint, create text,
and erase objects Tools
– View tools: Zoom and pan
– Color tools: Set stroke and fill colors
– Options: Modify the currently selected Views

DISPLAYING/HIDING PANELS
Panels can be displayed or shown by selecting or deselecting panels from
the Windows menu.
1. Click on the
Windows menu.
2. Click on an
unchecked panel
to display it or
click on a checked
panel to hide it.
FLASH SYMBOLS
Objects in Flash are called symbols and a symbol can be a graphic, a
movie, or a button. Symbols can contain other symbols.

WHY USE SYMBOLS
Once a symbol is created, it gets stored in the Library and then can be
reused multiple times in the Flash document, without significantly
increasing the Flash document size. Another advantage is that
modifications to the symbol will affect all instances of that symbol on the
Flash stage, which saves time.

• Before proceeding, save your
document and save often thereafter.
