FIGHTING LAZINESS

BY USTADA SANIA QURESHI

“And say: Work; So Allah Taala
will see your work and (so will)
His Messenger and the believers;
and you shall be brought back to
the Knower of the unseen and the
seen, then He will inform you of
what you did.’
(9:105)
"And what prevents their
expenditures from being accepted
from them but that they have
disbelieved in Allah and in His
Messenger and that they come not
to prayer except while they are lazy
and that they do not spend except
while they are unwilling."
(9:54)
Narrated by Anas bin Malik ‫
Allah’s Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬used to
say
O Allah! I seek‫ات‬ ِ refuge
‫ َوال َْم َم‬with You from
helplessness, laziness, cowardice
and feeble old age; I seek refuge
with You from afflictions of life and
death
Sahih al-Bukhari 2823
The Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
says,
Take advantage of 5 before 5
 Youth before old age
 Health before illness
 Prosperity before poverty
 Free time before busyness
“When a man says I cannot
He has made a suggestion to
himself. He has weakened his
power of accomplishing that
which otherwise would have been
accomplished”
Muhammad Ali
Will power is a 2 step
process:
1. Trust in Allah
(Tawakkul)
2. Sincere Effort
“Losing hope when
a slippage occurs is
a sign of relying too
much on one’s own
deeds”
Ibn Ata’illah
“Indeed Allah will not
change the condition
of a people until they
change what is in
themselves”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:11)
Discipline – That a person gains the
ability to do things which his Nafs
doesn’t like.
Imam Al-Qushayri ‫ رـحمة اـهللعليهـ‬said:
“For me to raise my hand from my
plate while I’m still hungry is better
than the whole night in Prayer”
Surely those who say, “Our Lord is
Allah,” and then remain steadfast, the
angels descend upon them, saying, “Do
not fear, nor grieve. Rather, rejoice in
the good news of Paradise, which you
have been promised.
