Adversity Quotient & Language Motivation in Education

This study examines adversity quotient and language motivation as predictors of language achievement among senior teacher education students. The study uses a descriptive-correlational research design and conceptual framework relating adversity quotient and language motivation as independent variables to academic and language achievement as dependent variables. Data was collected through a closed-question adversity quotient test and a modified version of Gardner's language motivation test. Academic achievement data came from students' final English grades. The participants were senior pre-service teachers and data was analyzed using statistical methods to describe relationships between variables.

ranging from ‘Strongly Agree’ to ‘Strongly

Gardner and Smythe, 1981) and the internal
consistency estimate of reliability for the

Data Analysis Best (1963) cited that the process of

descriptive research goes beyond mere
gathering and tabulation of data. It involves
an element of interpretation of the meaning
or significance of what is described, hence
this study used Pearson r as inferential
statistics.
