Chapter 4: Quality of Water

 The quality of water is important because impurities


in it may:
- interfere with the setting of the cement
- adversely affect the strength of the concrete or
cause staining of its surface
- also lead to corrosion of the reinforcement
 For these reasons, the suitability of water for mixing
and curing purposes should be considered.
 Clear distinction must be made between the effects
of mixing water and the attack on hardened concrete
by aggressive waters because some of the latter
type may be harmless or even beneficial when used
in mixing.
