Indian aviation
The Aviation industry in India began with the birth
of Tata Airlines, through the business
relationship between Mr. NEVILL VINTCENT, a
Royal Air Force pilot and Mr. JRD Tata, the first
Indian to get an A-license. Tata Airlines became
Air India in August 1946. In 1953, the Air
Corporation Act nationalized all existing airline
assets and established the Indian Airline
Corporation and Air India International for
domestic and international air services
respectively
CLASSIFICATION OF INDIAN
AVIATION SECTOR
The Indian aviation sector can be broadly divided into the following main
categories:
1. SCHEDULED AIR TRANSPORT SERVICE :-
Which includes domestic and international airlines.
2. NON-SCHEDULED AIR TRANSPORT SERVICE:-
Which includes charter operators and air taxi operators.
3. AIR CARGO SERVICE:-
Which includes air transportation of cargo and
mail.

Jet Air ways commenced its operations on
May 5, 1993. It has emerged as India's largest
private domestic airline. It has a market share
of 25%. Jet Airways' current fleet consists of 62
aircraft. It operates 340 flights daily to 50
destinations. During 2005, it introduced
medium and long-haul international operations.
It has expanded the range of frequent flyer
partnerships with foreign airlines, such as
Lufthansa, Qantas, Gulf Air, Austrian Airlines,
Thai and Swiss. It currently employs 8,815
people.
SPICE JET AIRLINES
SpiceJet airlines aims to be a low cost
airline. Its fleet consists of several
Boeing 737-800 aircrafts only. This
single aircraft type fleet allows
efficiency in maintenance. It operates in
14 destinations.
GO AIR
Airline was established in June 2004. On 9 June 2005 GoAir
announced that it intended to launch operations in October
2005 with a fleet of 20 leased Airbus A320 aircraft. Initial flights
would be in the southern and western areas of India with the
first nine A320s, the remaining 11 aircraft being added in the
second year. At the time the airline was in discussion with both
Airbus and Boeing on the purchase of between 20 and 40 new
aircraft, with a contract to be in place by the end of 2005 and
with deliveries to start by 2007. It started operations on
4 November 2005. An order for 10 aircraft from the Airbus A320
family (with options for 10 more) was announced in July 2006..
Go Air is wholly owned by the WADIA GROUP, Mumbai based
and majority owners of Bombay Dyeing and Britannia Industries
. On 18 January 2007, GoAir Chairman Nusli Wadia was found to
be carrying a revolver and bullets aboard an Air India flight to
Dubai. Though undetected by baggage screeners upon
departure, they were detected and confiscated upon his arrival
at Dubai.
INDIGO AIRLINES
The airline commenced operations on 4 August 2006 with
a service from Delhi to Imphal via Guwahati. The airline is
owned by InterGlobe Enterprises. [1] It took delivery of its
first Airbus A320 aircraft on 28 July 2006 and received six
aircraft during 2006. Nine more aircraft were delivered in
2007 taking the total to 15. The carrier has set a target of
serving approximately 30 Indian cities by 2010 with a fleet
size of 40 A320 and A321 aircraft. The airline will receive
all 100 A320 family aircraft by 2016. [2]
Former US Airways Executive Vice-President, Marketing
and Planning Bruce Ashby has joined IndiGo Airlines as
their Chief Executive Officer. The Indian Government has
approved the airline's aircraft import plan "in principle".
The airline has also acquired 3 parking spots in New Delhi
and Mumbai airports.

KINGFISHER AIRLINES
Kingfisher Airlines is a UB GROUP Company, a USD 2 billion
diversified conglomerate, comprising of over 60 companies in
major industries. The airline launched its much awaited
services on 7th May 2005. KINGFISHER AIRLINES has grown
rapidly over a few years and has in a short span gathered a
significant market share.
Now Kingfisher operates domestic and international routes
operating 218 flights a day and a network of 38 destinations. Its
main bases are Bangalore International Airport (Bangalore),
