Project Crashing: Steps and Examples

The document discusses project crashing, which is shortening a project schedule to meet an earlier deadline. It outlines the four steps of project crashing: 1) find the normal critical path, 2) compute crash costs, 3) select the critical path activity with the lowest crash cost per time period, and 4) ensure the critical path is still critical. It provides an example of crashing the general foundry project from 16 to 14 weeks by crashing activities C and E. Finally, it notes project crashing can be done using quantitative tools like Excel.

Introduction
At times, projects have deadlines that may be
impossible to meet using the normal
procedures for completion of the project.
However, by using overtime, working
weekends, hiring extra workers, or using extra
equipment, it may be possible to finish a
project in less time than is normally required.
However, the cost of the project will usually
increase as a result.
