CRACKMATH: LESSON 3: ALGERBA: SLIDE 1
Algebra
Statistics:
• Average: Mean = Sum of all quantities/ Number of quantities
Q. What is the average of 1,3,5,7,9
Average = (1+3+5+7+9) / 5 = 5
• Mode = value which repeats the most
Q. What is the mode for the following:
a. 1,1,1,2,2,3
b. 1,1,2,2,3
c. 1,2,3,4,5
• Median = middle value
o Steps:
 Sort the series
 Check n: total number of values
 If odd then Median = value of (n+1)/2 term
 If even then Median = Average of value of n/2 term and (n/2)+1 term

CRACKMATH: LESSON 3: ALGERBA: SLIDE 2
Algebra

• Weighted average:
If a group containing n1 number of things and having an average of a1 is combined with another group
containing n2 number of things and having an average of a2, then the final average is given by
= [ (a1*n1)+ (a2*n2)]/ [n1+n2]

Q. If a group of 10 boys having average age of 20 years is combined with a group of 40 girls having average
age of 30 years. Find the average age of the final group.

• Arrow Method:

Q. If a group of boys having average age 20 years is combined with a group of girls having average age 10
years and final group has an average age of 13 years. Find ratio of number of boys and girls.

Algebra
Inequality:
• Signs:
> Greater than
< Less than
≥ Greater than or equal to
≤ Less than or equal to

The sign of equality changes only if we multiply or divide by a negative number otherwise the sign
remains same

• Linear inequality in one variable:

10x+ 50 < 5x+100. Find x

• Shortcuts:
If A*B > 0, then A > 0 , B > 0 or A < 0, B < 0
If A*B < 0, then A > 0 , B < 0 or A < 0, B > 0
