Types of Engine
According to type of fuel used
• Diesel Engine • Petrol Engine
• Heavy vehicles likes buses, • Lighter vehicles like cars,
trucks, locomotives scooters, bikes
• low rpm high torque • high rpm low torque
Main Components
• Intake Manifold
• Intake Valves
• Cylinder
• Piston
• Exhaust Valves
• Connecting Rod
• Crank
• Crank Shaft
• Flywheel
• Cam Shaft
Cam Shaft
• Camshaft, in internal-combustion engines,
rotating shaft with attached disks of
irregular shape (the cams), which actuate
the intake and exhaust valves of the
cylinders. The cams and the camshaft are
usually formed as a unit, with the cams
set at angles so as to open and close the
valves in a prescribed sequence as the
cams rotate.
• Timing gear is attached to the intake cam
shaft.
• Analogous to computer program
• Brain of an engine.
• Controls opening and closing of
valves.
• Main operation regulator
