PROBLEM

• Secure Bank was looking for a software service provider who can develop, test and maintain their new integrated
banking software. The problem is the selection of vendor between the two shortlisted vendors
o Vega Information Systems
o Zeta Software Technologies

CONTEXT
● Secure bank expanding into the international market so it needed an integrated banking software
● Secure bank wanted a medium and or small firm to handle the development, implementation and maintenance of
the new software
● The vendors for the software development were Vega Information Systems and Zeta Software Technologies
● The contract for prototype was given to Vega and Zeta, both of which had achieved SEI-CMM Level 5
certification and were of same size

VEGA:
● Vega was more profitable had well documented organization charts and job descriptions
● Vega believed that secret to success and profitable growth lay in specialization and well defined role
● Vega was unable to cope with the changes that needed to be made to the product
● Its organisation structure was too rigid so lower rank employees had no say in product development

ZETA
● Zeta was a more informal organization structure with departments just being arbitrary structures
● Zeta believed more in solving problems through personal communication than following strict channels
● Zeta had an open organizational structure but it also made their hierarchy more convoluted
● Zeta was able to handle the changes as it was already suggested by one of the employee
● Employee satisfaction was a major concern in the day to day working of Zeta

SOLUTION

• To go with ZETA
• They recognized the flaw, came up with an unique solution and were ready to share their new idea
with their competitor
• Motivated to perform aligned task in the most efficient and faultless manner
• Tested all the aspects of the software, changed and upgraded the shortcomings and also completed the
project within the deadline
• Not hesitant to do perform extra tasks, such as design review that may benefit the project
• Though Vega also submitted the prototype on time, they had to skip certain tests to do so
