Understanding Reported Speech Rules

Reported speech is used to write or talk about what other people have said. When using reported speech, some changes may need to be made to the tense, pronouns, place, time, and demonstratives used. For example, present tense verbs become past tense, pronouns change, here becomes there, now becomes then, and this/these become that/those. Direct questions and requests are also changed into indirect reported versions using verbs like "asked" or "told".
