Matrices in Business Applications

Matrices are rectangular arrays of numbers or functions that are useful in many areas of mathematics and business. They simplify solving systems of linear equations. A matrix is defined by its order (number of rows and columns) and can take several forms, including rectangular, square, diagonal, identity, and zero matrices. Matrices have important applications in fields like physics, computing, encryption, geology, and economics. They are used for electrical circuits, quantum mechanics, image projection, message encryption, seismic surveys, and calculating GDP.

Introduction
 The knowledge of matrices is necessary in various branches
of mathematics. Matrices are one of the most powerful
tools in mathematics. This mathematical tool simplifies our
work to a great extent when compared with other straight
forward method. The evolution of concept of matrices is the
result of an attempt to obtain compact and simple methods
of solving systems of linear equations.
Definition
 "A matrix is an ordered rectangular array of numbers or
functions . The numbers or functions are called the
elements or the entries of the matrix. We denote matrices by
capital letters."
Dimension or Order of Matrix
 The number of Rows in a matrix is represented with ‘m’
and the number of Columns is represented with ’n’. Hence
the matrix can be called m×n order matrix. Then numbers
m and n are called dimensions of the matrix.
Types of Matrix

Rectangular
Squar Matrix. Row Matrix. Column Matrix.
Matrix.

Unit Matrix or Zero Matrix or

Diagonal Matrx. Scalar Matrix.
Identity Matrix. Null Matrix.
Some of the Main Application of

           MATRICES
Physics
 In Physics related applications, matrices are
applied in the study of Electrical circuits,
Quantum mechanics and Optics.
Computer Based Application
  In computer based applications, matrices play a
vital role in the projection of three dimensional
image into a two dimensional screen, creating
the realistic seeming motions
Encryption
 One of the most important usages of matrices in
Computer side applications are encryption of
Message codes. Matrices and their inverse
matrices are used for a programmer for coding
or encrypting a message.
Geology
 Matrices are used for taking seismic surveys.
They are used for plotting graphs, statistics and
also to do scientific studies in almost different
fields.
Economics
 Matrices are used in calculating the Gross
domestic products in economics which
eventually helps in calculating the goods
production efficiently.
