Understanding Development Goals and Criteria

Development refers to improvements in managing resources to create wealth and improve lives. It means different things to different people based on their needs and situation. For some, it means more work and better wages or education, while for others it could mean greater freedom and choice. While income is one measure of development, other factors like equality, freedom, security and respect are also important. Countries are considered more developed if they have higher average incomes, but development should also be evaluated based on other criteria like health, education, equality and sustainability.
