Cloud computing

Introduction
The term cloud refers to a network or internet. Application such
as e-mail, web conferencing, customer relationship management
(CRM) all run in cloud.
Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services which
includes services, storage, databases, networking, software,
analytics and intelligence over the internet (“the cloud”) to offer
faster innovation, fexible resources, and economics of scale.
Cloud computing provides us a means by which we can access
the application as utilities, over the internet.
It allows us to create, configure, and customize applications
online.

How does cloud computing works??
To understand the working mechanism of cloud system, the
cloud has to be divided into two section i.e the front end and
back end.
They are connected through each other through a network,
usually the internet.
Front end is the part of cloud which users can interact with. For
example, when we log in to our Gmail account, we see the user
interface where everything works on event-driven buttons and
graphics.
Back end comprises of hardware as well as software that
delivers the back end data from the database to the front end.
Cloud service provider integrate all these component together
to ensure seamless delivery of computing services to a variety
of users using the various cloud service models.
How does cloud computing works??
For example: if you have e-mail account with e-mail service
such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail, then you can log into your
email account without installing an email program on your
computer or mobile device. You can also access all the
information and files in your email account. The software and
storage for your email account do not exist on your device,
but rather it exists on the service’s computer cloud.
Types of cloud computing
1. Public cloud : The public cloud allows systems and services to be
easily accessible to the general public. Public cloud may be less
secure because of its openness. For example : e-mail, Microsoft Azure.
2. Private cloud : The private cloud allows systems and services to be
accessible within an organization. It offers more security than public
cloud because of its private nature.
3. Community cloud : The community cloud allows systems and
services to be accessible by group of organizations.
4. Hybrid cloud : The hybrid cloud is mixture of public and private
cloud. However, the critical activities are performed using private
cloud while the non critical activities are performed using public cloud.
Types of cloud services
Most cloud computing services fall into three board categories.
They are:
1. Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
2. Platform as a service (PaaS)
3. Software as a service (SaaS)
These services build on top of one another. So sometimes they
are called as the cloud computing stack.
Infrastructure as a service (Iaas)
IaaS is the delivery of technology infrastructure as an on demand
scalable service.
IaaS provides access to fundamental resources such as physical
machines, virtual machines, virtual storage, etc.
A third party host element of infrastructure such as hardware,
servers, firewalls, and storage capacity with IaaS.
Some of the examples of IaaS are given below :
Platform as a service (PaaS)
Platform as a service is the cloud computing services that
provides an on-demand environment for developing, testing,
delivering, and managing software applications.
PaaS provides all of the facilities required to support the
complete lifecycle of building and delivering web applications
and services entirely from the internet.
Some of the examples of PaaS are given below:
Software as a service (SaaS)
SaaS is a method for delivering software applications over the
internet, on demand and typically on a subscription basis.
SaaS models allows to use software applications as a service to
end-users.
Cloud providers host and manage the software application and
underlying infrastructure and handle any maintenance, like
software upgrades and security patching with SaaS.
Some of the examples of SaaS are given below:
Benefits/Advantages
1. Reduced cost : Cloud computing is not much expensive. If you need
to pay for a cloud computing service, it can be paid for incrementally
on a monthly or yearly basis. You can terminate your use of services at
any time by choosing a plan that has no contract.
2. High performance : The biggest cloud computing services run on a
worldwide network secure datacenters, which are regularly upgraded
to the latest generation of fast and efficient computing hardware. This
helps to get a several benefits over a single corporate datacenter.
3. Speed : Most cloud computing services are provided self-service and
on demand, so even vast amounts of computing resources could be
provisioned in minutes, typically with just a few mouse clicks, giving
business a lot of flexibility and taking the pressure off capacity
planning.
Benefits/Advantages
4. Productivity : On-site datacenters usually need a lot of “racking and
stacking” –hardware setup, software patching, and other time-
consuming IT management chores. Cloud computing removes the
need for many of these tasks, so IT teams can spend time on
achieving more important business goals.
5. Reliability : Data could be mirrored at multiple redundant sites on the
cloud provider’s network. Thus, cloud computing makes data backup,
disaster recovery and business continuity easier and less expensive.
6. More storage and automatic updates : Cloud computing gives you a
increased storage, thus you don’t need to worry about running out of
space on your hard drive.
Disadvantages
1. Security : While using a cloud computing service, you are
handling your data to a third party. Users from all over the world
are accessing the same server can cause a security issues. The
confidential information of the companies might be harmed by
virus and other malware.
2. Privacy : The risk of cloud computing is that the unauthorized
users might access your information. Cloud computing services
offer password protection to protect against this happening. But
also we can say that there is no much privacy in cloud
computing services.
Disadvantages
3. Loss of control : Cloud computing entities control the users. This
includes not only how much you have to pay to use the service,
but also what information you can store, where you can access it
from and many other factors. If for any reason, their server
ceases to operate, you have risk of losing all your information.
4. Internet reliance : The internet access is increasingly widespread
but also in some area there is no internet. You are not able to
open the documents you have stored in the cloud if you don’t
have constant internet connection. It does not work well if there
is slow internet connection or no internet connection.
Uses
Helps to use applications without installation.
Access the personal files at any computer with internet.
It is used to store, backup and recover data.
This technology allows much more efficient computation by
centralizing storage memory, processing and bandwidth.
Everywhere cloud computing are being used such as while
sending email, editing document, watching T.V, playing games,
storing pictures or other files. Cloud computing makes it possible
behind the scenes.
Conclusion
Cloud computing is a new technology which are becoming
popular worldwide. It have many advantages that could
immediately benefit you and your business.
There are different cloud computing services such as icloud,
Google cloud connect for Microsoft office, IBM SmartCloud etc
which have the great uses.
So, the cloud computing is very important. Every individual or
every companies are using cloud computing by knowingly or
unknowingly.
