WHAT DOES COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
BASICALLY MEANS?
Community Development is a work done by a person or group of
people that benefits others. It is often done near the area where
you live, so your own community reaps the benefits of your work.
One does not get paid to perform community service, but
volunteer one’s time. Community Development Projects can help
many different groups of people like children, senior citizens,
people with disabilities, even animals and the environment.
Effective community development should be:
a long-term endeavour.
well-planned.
inclusive and equitable.
holistic and integrated into the bigger picture.
initiated and supported by community members.
of benefit to the community.
grounded in experience that leads to best practices.
Community development is a grassroots process by
which communities,
become more responsible.
organize and plan together.
develop healthy lifestyle options.
empower themselves.
reduce poverty and suffering.
create employment and economic opportunities.
achieve social, economic, cultural and environmental goals.
What Are Examples of
Community Service?
There are hundreds of ways to participate in community service,
depending on your skills and interests. Some common community
service examples include: -
Working with schoolchildren: Tutoring children after school,
collecting school supplies to donate, planting a school garden.
Working with senior citizens: Visiting residents of a retirement
centre, delivering meals to senior citizens, driving them to
appointments.
Improving the environment: Holding a recycling contest, planting
trees, creating a new trail at a nature centre.
Helping low-income people: Passing out food at a soup kitchen,
collecting used clothes to be donated, making first aid kits for
homeless shelters.
INTRODUCTION OF ONE HOPE-MEETH
ONE HOPE-MEETH is a Non-Governmental Organisation which has come into
existence on December 16, 2016. Its Founder is Mr. Jaskaran Singh, who along
with his friends started this NGO. This NGO is basically based in Phagwara and
work in nearby areas also. ONE HOPE-MEETH works for humanity with the
hope of making this world a better place.
Through this project we have
done:
Donating Clothes and other groceries for needy people
OLDAGE HOME EVENTS: -
We keep on visiting old age home named ‘Guru Nanak Birdh Aashram’ near
village Virka, Phagwara where almost 200 senior citizens as well as disabled
children live. They have appointed permanent cooks there who look after the
food. One doctor is always present there in case of emergency. They have another
branch in village Sahni near Hoshiarpur where almost 200 senior citizens live
who are left alone by their own kids. We have conducted events a number of times
there in which our members have distributed new clothes to them, entertained
them by singing songs etc.
TREE PLANTATION: -
We took initiative of planting 1,000 trees and about 500 trees had
been planted till date. We started this initiative keeping in mind
the motive of saving our ‘Mother Earth’ from getting polluted and
making a green environment.
CONCLUSION: -
It is our duty to make our society a better place. I have seen people witnessing the
darkness that seems inescapable and I have seen persons finding hope in the hope
of others. As a member of this NGO, I feel that one can guide others and can
bring changes in someone’s life. As there is one famous saying that, “We can’t
help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” With the hope of bringing a
change in this society, in this world I will keep on working for the humanity.
