ELECTRICAL
WORKS
WHAT IS ELECTRICAL WORK?
▪ Electrical work is manufacturing, constructing, installing,
removing, adding, testing, replacing, repairing, altering or
maintaining electrical equipment or an electrical installation.
▪ There are two phases of electrical works on construction,
which are wet and dry phase. The wet phase refers to the
initial phase when the house is unprotected from moisture
caused by external forces such as rain, while the dry phase
is the phase when most electrical work is carried out as the
interior is safe from rain and snow.
STAGES OF ELECTRICAL
WORKS ON CONSTRUCTION
Temporary Electric and Underground Conduit
▪ Since there is a lot of machinery that
operates on electricity and there is no
electricity connection at the construction
site, a temporary electric pole is
installed or a generator will be used
during this stage.
▪ Electrical conduits are laid down during
this stage before the floor is finalized
with concrete.
▪ This is the only stage that takes place in
the wet phase.
The Rough-in
▪ This stage comes once all the
floors, windows, doors, etc. have
been installed, but the sheet rock
is still left to be installed.
▪ Exhaust fans, lights and all wiring
related to the entertainment
system, security system, etc. can
be put up since the roofing is
installed during this stage.
More Temporary Needs
▪ This stage covers a lot of small
details, since the sheet rock has
been laid and no major electrical
wiring changes can take place
now.
▪ Receptacles and a few lights and
switches are added temporarily
in which they are expected to be
damaged by sheet rock mud and
paint.
The Finish
▪ All switch boards, fans,
lights, receptacles, HVAC
systems and external electrical
items are installed on this stage
▪ This stage is technically the last
one, since all electrical
appliances are affixed where
they will be needed, and ready
for use.
Modifications and Warrant
▪ This stage can be treated like the
testing stage, where everything is
checked to see whether the
wiring has been done properly or
not.
▪ Within the warranty period, the
buyer may also ask for a few
additions or alterations in the
electric wiring.
WIRING MATERIALS
IN ELECTRICAL WORKS
Electrical Conduits
▪ Electrical conduits may be rigid
or flexible and may be made out
of various materials like PVC or
steel.
▪ PVC conduits are used in cases when
electric wire may need to run below the
ground or in an open environment that
is exposed to air, dust and water. For
applications in basement or garage,
where wire generally run over the
surface of the wall, electrical metal
conduits are best.
ELECTRICAL WIRES AND CABLES
▪ Electrical Wire is drawn metal,
copper or aluminum that carries
electricity through an electrical
circuit. Wire may be run
overhead, under ground, through
conduit or flex or open.
EXPLOSION PROOF AND ENCLOSURES
▪ Explosion Proof is a product
design to contain an electrical
short so that it doesn’t ignite a
hazardous atmosphere causing
an explosion.
▪ These are made with heavy duty
steel or aluminum by design, or
can be fiberglass as well.
CIRCUIT BREAKERS
▪ Circuit Breakers are devices that
automatically interrupt the follow
of an electric current to protect
against a short or overload.
▪ Circuit Breakers protect the
smallest house circuit to the
largest industrial requirements.
ELECRICAL CONNECTORS
▪ Electrical Connector is a
part that will join or adapt
one part to another.
▪ They can be indoor,
outdoor, corrosive protected
or explosion proof.
ELECTRICAL BOX
▪ Electrical Box is an enclosure
used for many purposes such as
pulling, connecting or terminated
▪ Can be made of steel, aluminum,
plastic, stainless steel, or cast
iron. n electrical circuit.
LUGS
▪ Lugs are the electrical
connectors that terminate the
electric.
▪ They are made of copper,
aluminum, or bronze. al circuit,
and can be mechanical or set
screw; compression or crimp,
solder or weld; or clamp type.
MOTOR CONTROL
▪ Motor Control is an apparatus
used to regulate a motor or
mechanism.
▪ It can control the smallest
mechanism to the largest power
turbines.
CONCLUSION
▪ Electrical works are the installing, adding, testing
or removing of electrical equipment and electrical
installations on a construction project. There are
stages of electrical works where it indicates when
certain electrical works should be done.
