What Is Community Service?
Community Service is one of the avenues of service which encourages the member of societies
to work for their communities.
Every active or responsible member of society should take a responsibility to find ways to
improve the quality of life for the needy ones and the deserving ones in their communities and
serve the public interest.
Community Service can be performed in several ways like: Blood Donation Drive, Environmental
Clean-up (such as Plantation Drive), Career Counselling in School/Colleges and Visits at Special
School etc.
Our Project:
Our First task was to decide that what should be taken as a community service project. We
taken every possible service within our capability into account like blood donation drive,
plantation drive, Career Counseling sessions or arrangement of sports gala at under privileged
school/colleges or visits at special children school.
We then after careful consideration decided to go for a School for Special Children. For this we
selected UJALA SCHOOL (for Blind Children) as the children like them need the special
attention of the community and also this school was near to us in our own city.
Planning for Visit:
Afterwards we needed a permission from them for 2-3 Visits and they happily accepted our
proposal.
Our next task was to arrange some interactive session and fun activities for them. But as they all
were blind even few of the teachers were also blind so we had to perform activities and interact
with them according to the instructions of the administration of that school which was very
cooperative with us.
Our Visit to UJALA:
Then comes our visits, our first visit was on Friday at morning when we reached school first we
met with principal and the faculty of the school afterwards they gave the demonstration of their
system of education that how we teach the blind students how to read and write. As they can’t
see with eyes as we can.
They also had the classes from 1 to 10. and we visited each class one by one. Their class
teachers showed us that how they teach their students with different methods which we will be
sharing here later on. We interacted with the students who can’t see but they can feel, we had
a very good time with them and in this way our first visit ended.
Second Visit:
In our second visit the school faculty decided to show us the abilities these special children
have. They were all very intelligent in any aspect like studying, playing piano, singing songs etc.
We were inspired a lot by them.
From these visits we learned that special children may be blind (can’t see), dough (can’t hear)
etc. ut they are far more better than us in other abilities and they taught us the message to
always struggle in life whatever the circumstances are. At the end we had a great time with
them.
