What is WPT
The transmission of energy from one place to another
without using wires Conventional energy transfer is using
wires But, the wireless transmission is made possible by
using various technologies
Why not wires
As per studies, most electrical energy transfer is through
wires. Most of the energy loss is during transmission On
an average, more than 30%
BASIC CONFIGURATION OF TESLA COIL
the capacitor 1C forms
two resonant circuits:
one with the primary coil
1P,
and another with the
secondary coil 1S.
The voltage supplied by the
Neon sign transformer 1T.
INDUCTIVE COUPLING
Simplest instance of wireless energy transfer is the action
of an electrical transformer

RESONANT INDUCTIVE
COUPLING
Evanescence basically means ‘tending to vanish’.
Electromagnetic waves are transmitted from one medium
to another by means of evanescent electromagnetic field.
Accomplished by placing two more wave guides together.
RESONANT INDUCTIVE COUPLING
Coupling is always associated with induced charges &
current within partially reflecting surfaces.
Directly analogus to nearfield non-radiative coupling
between the primary & secondary of a trasnsformer.
RESONANT INDUCTIVE COUPLING
PRINCIPLE
RESONANT COUPLING : Two same-frequency resonant
objects tend to couple, while interacting weakly with other
off-resonant environmental objects
RESONANT EVANESCENT COUPLING : The coupling
mechanism is mediated through the overlap of the non-
radiative near-fields of the two objects).
RESONANT INDUCTIVE COUPLING
WORKING
Non-resonant induction method is inefficient over greater
distances .
Resonance helps efficiency dramatically by “tunneling”
the magnetic field to receiver coil that resonates at the
same frequency as the transmitter.
Such receiving coils are single layer solenoids with
closely placed capacitor at both ends.
Colpitts oscillator.
In resonant energy transfer the inductor would be the transmitter coil and capacitors are
used to tune the circuit to a suitable frequency.
To progressively feed energy/power into the primary coil with each cycle, different circuits
can be used. One circuit employs a Colpitts oscillator
In Tesla coils an intermittent switching system, a "circuit controller or "break," is used to
inject an impulsive signal into the primary coil; the secondary coil then rings and decays.
