Tycho Brahe and Kepler's Laws Explained

Tycho Brahe was a 16th century Danish astronomer known for his accurate astronomical observations of the planets. Johannes Kepler used Brahe's meticulous data to discover that planets orbit the Sun in ellipses rather than perfect circles, establishing Kepler's first law of planetary motion. Kepler also derived his other laws of planetary motion from Brahe's observations, including that a line connecting a planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times, and that the square of a planet's orbital period is proportional to the cube of its average distance from the Sun.

Who is Tycho Brahe?

 Tycho Brahe was a

Danish nobleman,
astronomer, and writer
known for his accurate
and comprehensive
astronomical and
planetary observations.
He was born in the then
Danish peninsula of
Scania.
What is the thing that Kepler derive
out Brahe’s works

Finding that an elliptical orbit fit

the Mars data, he immediately
concluded that all planets move
in ellipses, with the sun at one
focus—Kepler's first law of
planetary motion.
Kepler’s Law of
Planetary Motion
Law of Orbits

All planets move

in elliptical orbits,
with the sun at
one focus.
Law of Areas

Aline that
connects a
planet to the
sun sweeps out
equal areas in
equal times.
Law of Periods

The square of the

period of any planet
is proportional to the
cube of the
semimajor axis of its
orbit.
