Civil Engineering Materials

INTRODUCTION
Course Outline:
 The basic knowledge of civil engineering
materials
 The characteristics of different building materials
such as cement, concrete, steel, water materials
and etc.
 Development of building materials
 The introduction of building materials’ technical
standards
 Foundation of the knowledge in choosing and
using building materials in the future
Course Objectives:

 To provide the basic knowledge and necessary


theory of property and application of relevant
engineering materials
 To receive basic skills training of main building
materials test
Course Outcome:

 Master of cement, lime, asphalt and other


cementitious materials such as; brick, stone, brick
and other masonry materials (structural materials)
such as steel.
 Master of composition, properties and application
of concrete, mortar and other site preparation
materials.
Course Outcome:

 Master in mix design of the concrete, masonry


mortar and etc.
 Familiar with the contents of the latest technical
standards in the various civil engineering
materials.

Course Method Evaluation:

 Attendance 10%

 Assignments 10%

 Quiz/Class Participation 10%

 Midterm/Presentation 30%

 Final Exam 40%


Class Regulation:

 Attendance will be taken at the first or second


period of each class
 Student should come at least 5 minutes earlier
before the class is started
 Cellphone can be used in the class for “translation
only”. If the students use it for other purposes,
teacher has the right to collect the phone
 Student will not allow to attend final exam if they
have absence more than 30%
