How to Buy a Quantum Computer

This document provides an overview of quantum computers. It discusses how transistors are shrinking to the atomic scale, posing problems for traditional computers. Quantum computers use quantum properties like superposition to have qubits that can be 0 and 1 simultaneously. The document outlines some uses of quantum computers, such as optimization problems and big data processing. It briefly describes Google's and NASA's quantum computer created by D-Wave, noting it must be very cold to function and uses quantum tunneling to reduce power consumption compared to traditional computers.

More About Transistors
• Today a typical scale for transistors is 14 nms
which is about 8 times less than the HIV virus
diameter and 500 times smaller than a red
blood cell.
Why the decreasing size of
transistor is a problem
• As transistors are shrinking to the size of only a few
atoms electrons may just transfer themselves to the
other side of a blocked passage via a process called
Quantum Tunneling
• In the quantum realm ,physics works quite differently
from the predictable ways we are used to,and
Traditional computers just stop making sense
• We are approaching a real physical barrier for our
technological progress,to solve this problem scientist
are trying to use these unusual quantum properties to
their advantage by building qauntum computers
What is Quantum Computer
• A conventional computer works by performing
operations on bits that can be in two states: zero
or one
• However in Quantum Computer, a bit can be zero
and one at the same time,In Quantum Computer
bits are called Qubits.
• Quantum computer is a computer who uses
quantum properties of quantum particles to
calculate. Since it is not silicon based, quantum
computers use qubits instead of bits.
• Since it uses quantum properties of whatever
quantum particle the quantum computer is made
of , for example, polarisation of light, electron
spin, atoms energy states, each qubit encodes a 1
or 0 state, like computer bits.
Uses of Quantum Computer
• Quantum computers are great for solving
optimization problems from figuring out the best
way to schedule flights at an airport to
determining the best delivery routes for the
FedEx truck
• Every day, we produce 2.5 exabytes of data. That
number is equivalent to the content on 5 million
laptops. Quantum computers will make it
possible to process the amount of data we’re
generating in the age of big data
Uses of Quantum Computer
• Quantum Computers can be used to crack
encryption system
• Quantum Computer can be used to search any
enteries in a database,in just a square root of
time of normal computers
Google’s and NASA’s quantum
computer made by D-wave
More About D-wave’s Quantum
Computer
• In order to keep quantum computers stable, they
need to be cold. That’s why the inside of D-Wave
Systems’ quantum computer is -460 degrees
Fahrenheit.
• Rather than use more electricity, quantum
computers will reduce power consumption
anywhere from 100 up to 1000 times because
quantum computers use quantum tunneling.
• Quantum computers are very fragile. Any kind of
vibration impacts the atoms and causes
decoherence.
