Introduction
● Concept introduced by Elon Musk as a fifth
mode to transportation and is open source.

● Most suitable for the pair of developed cities


that are at a distance of around 1500 KM.

● Basically a pod travels in a tube over or under


the ground which contains a special
environment.

● Overcoming the Kantrowitz Limit.
● Identification and Formulation of routes.
● Efficient propulsion system.
● Creation of “special environment” in the tubes.
● The sound barrier.
● Earthquakes and expansion joints.

Preliminary Solutions
● Tube (track) can be supported on pillars for
economy. Tubes are to be laid along a existing
road network.
● Air compressor is placed in front of the pod to
overcome Kantrowitz’s Limit and is used to
supply the compressed air to air bearings used
for suspension of pods.

Preliminary Solutions
● Vacuum is ideal for the “special environment”
but is harder and expensive to create and
maintain. Thus low pressure in tube is used.
● Solar panels are placed on the top of the tube.
These are used to power up the batteries and
external linear motors

Preliminary Solutions
● Dampeners are used to mitigate the risks of
earthquake and avoid expansion joints. Tube is
not rigidly fixed.
● To avoid sonic boom, velocity under 1 Mach is
maintained.
● Stations are isolated from tubes for maintaining
the air pressure in the tube.
