PIPELINES…!
HYPERLOOP
Hyperloop is a new mode of transport.
Proposed by ELON MUSK American business , investor, and
inventor. He is currently the CEO & CTO of SpaceX and CEO &
Chief Product Architect of Tesla Motors.
A high-speed train that promises travel at twice the speed of a
commercial aircraft, transporting passengers from Los Angeles to
San Francisco in just 30 minutes.
A high-level alpha design for the system was published
on August 12, 2013, in a whitepaper posted to the Tesla
and SpaceX blogs
It is a open source design.
A Hyperloop would be "an elevated, reduced-pressure
tube that contains pressurized capsules driven within the
tube by a number of linear electric motors.”
This system can achieve an average speed of 598 mph
(962 km/h), and a top speed of 760 mph (1,220 km/h).
Hyperloop consists of a low pressure tube with capsules
that are transported at both low and high speeds
throughout the length of the tube.
SIMPLE DEFINITION…
• Hyperloop is a new way to move people and
things at airline speeds for the price of a bus
ticket. It's on-demand, energy-efficient and
safe. Think: broadband for transportation.
MAIN PARTS OF HYPERLOOP
LOW PRESSURE TUBE
CAPSULE
AXAIL COMPRESSURE
ROUTE
LOW PRESSURE TUBE
The tube is made of steel.
The pressure in the tube is 100pa (0.000986923atm).
Pylons are placed every 30 m to support the tube.
CAPSULE
Sealed capsules carrying 28 passengers.
The capsules are supported via thrust air bearing that
operate using a compressed air reservoir and
aerodynamic lift.
AXIAL COMPRESSOR
It avoids kantrowitz limit.
Air is compressed with a pressure ratio of 20:1.
Some air is stored for passenger and air bearing.
An onboard water tank is used for cooling of the air.
STREAMLINES FOR CAPSULE TRAVELING AT HIGH
SUBSONIC VELOCITIES INSIDE HYPERLOOP.
ROUTE
There will be a station at Los Angeles and San Francisco. Several
stations along the way will be possible with splits in the tube.
The majority of the route will follow highway and the tube will be
constructed in the median
VISION FOR INDIA
WHY HYPERLOOP…?
COST
CAN IT REALLY BE SELF-POWERING ?
The Hyperloop as a whole is projected to consume an average of
21 MW.
A solar array covering the entire Hyperloop is large enough to
provide an annual average of 76,000 hp (57 MW), significantly
more than the Hyperloop requires.
Battery array at each accelerator, allowing the solar array to
provide only the average power needed to run the system.
ADVANTAGES
Faster
Lower cost
Pollution free
Immune to weather
Safer
Sustainably self-powering
Resistant to Earthquakes
DISADVANTAGES :
Tube pressurization.
Turning will be critical (with large radius).
Insufficient movable space for passenger.
SUMMARY
Hyperloop is a new idea of solar powered transportation system with
high speed of up to 760mph, which is developed by US
entrepreneur Elon Musk.
He proposed this transportation system to the route from the Los
Angeles region to the San Francisco Bay Area. In this presentation,
the possibilities and construction of the system is explained with the
details of different components of the system.
The technical details of the Hyperloop in this presentation are based
on the design details released by Elon musk on 12th august, 2013.
