Overview of Case
• A teacher lost his temper - threw a wooden chair
at a Year 2 boy.
• Unfortunately, it hit another pupil on the head.
The impact of the flying chair – big cut on the
head – 8 stitches
• Police report lodged – parents decided not to
pursue legally
• Disciplinary actions taken against the teacher
General Order applied to the case
• Rule 4(2)(d)
An officer is not allowed to:
-Behave in a way that can worsen/discredit the
public service.
• His short-temperedness caused aggressive
behaviour which inflicted harm towards the
pupils
• Rule 3C
It is the responsibility of an officer to exercise
disciplinary control and supervision over his
subordinates and take appropriate action
promptly against any officer who violates any
provision of these rules.
• Parents asked to take disciplinary actions
• Instructed to stop teaching – given a desk job
until further decision is taken
