It is formed from the removal of the suffix of a word, to form a new word
shorter or reduced

The Verb Televise is made from the Noun Television.
CASES OF BACK FORMATION
1. From Nouns to Verbs
It is the formation of new words, from the reduction of nouns to form
verb.
Example:
Singer (Noun) from sing (Verb)
The suffix of projection is removed to form the verb Project
EXAMPLES: Reduction of Nouns to form Verbs

2. CASE FORMATION OF WORDS WITH NOUNS
ENDING IN -AR -ER -OR
• They are formed with the nouns ending in -ar, -er, -ir to become verbs
• Example:

are formed from words ending in -tion
