Design of HVAC system of MOUSA

Tower In Saudi- Arabia

Father of Air-conditioning
Introduction

• HVAC means Heating, Ventilation and

Air-conditioning.
Ventilation
• Ventilation is one of the most significant parts of a building’s energy
consumption.
• Ventilation brings fresh air from outside to inside. Impurities are then
removed from the inside air.
• Impurities:
– Carbon dioxide, moisture, dust, toxins, allergens, smoke from kitchen
– Discharges from building materials and furniture.
• Deficient ventilation causes:
– Stuffiness, smells
– Increased carbon dioxide - headache and exhaustion
– Moisture condensation – moisture damage
– Favourable habitat for microbes
• The air must move freely between different rooms
– Remember threshold gaps, keep doors open,…
Ventilation Types
1. Natural .
2. Mechanical.
HVAC design Goal

 Reach Comfort zone.

• Temperature Range (22o C to 27o C ).

• RH Range (40% to 60%).

HVAC Systems Types
1. Direct Expansion system(DX).
 Window AC.
 Split unit.
 Package unit.
2. Chilled water system.
 Air cooled chiller.
 Water cooled chiller.
Mousa Tower design procedure
1. Outside conditions.
• Dry-Bulb Temperature=44o C
• RH = 28%

Design Condition For our project

• Dry-Bulb Temperature=23o C
• RH = 50%
2. Understand The building Architect
drawing and its application

• Commercial office building.

This step important for first estimation of

HVAC system (DX OR Chilled water).
