Understanding Chronic Renal Failure Symptoms

Chronic renal failure is a progressive reduction in functional renal tissue where the remaining kidney mass can no longer maintain the body's internal environment. It can be caused by chronic glomerulonephritis, acute renal failure, polycystic kidney disease, or nephrotoxins. Symptoms include increased blood pressure, accumulation of urea and potassium, decreased erythropoietin synthesis causing anemia, fluid volume overload ranging from mild edema to pulmonary edema, and metabolic acidosis due to accumulation of sulfates, phosphates, and uric acid.

Cronic Renal Failure

Nuraeny, SKM, [Link]

 Progressive reduction of functional renal tissue such as
that remaining kidney mass can no longger maintain the
body’s internal environment
Patology and risk factor
 Cronic glomerulonephritis, ARF, polycystic kidney
disease, and nephrotoxins are some of the etiology of
CRF
Sign & symptom
 Blood pressure is increased

 Urea accumulates,

 Potassium

 Erythropoietin synthesis is decreased causing anemia.

 Fluid volume overload symptoms may range from mild edema to life-
threatening pulmonary edema.

 Metabolic acidosis (due to accumulation of sulfates, phosphates, uric acid etc.)

 Iron deficiency anemia, which increases in prevalence as kidney function

decreases, is especially prevalent in those requiring haemodialysis
