What are angles
Anangleis the figure formed by two rays,
sharing a common endpoint, called thevertexof
the angle. We measure angles in degree. We
measure angles with the help of an instrument
called protractor.
Types of angles
There are four types of angles:
RIGHT ANGLE
ACUTE ANGLE
OBTUSE ANGLE
STRAIGHT ANGLE
RIGHT ANGLE
Right angle: An angle whose measure is 90 degree is called
right angle. In figure ABC=90 degree
a
b c
We denote an angle of 90 degree by the symbol .
ACUTE ANGLE
Acute Angle: An angle whose measure is between 0
degree and 90 degree or less than 90 degree is
called an acute angle. In figure MON =60 degree
Its measure is less than 90 degree, so
It is an acute angle.
Obtuse angle
Obtuse angle: An angle whose measure is more
than 90 degree and less than 180 degree is called
obtuse angle. In the figure ABC =130
[Link], it is more than 90 degree but less
than 180 degree so it is obtuse angle. a
b c
Straight Angle
Straight Angle: An angle whose measure is 180 degrees
is called straight angle. In the figure, ABC
= 180 degree
