TEACHING LEARNING MATERIALS

TYPES OF TEACHING AIDS
1)Visual Aids
The aids which use sense of vision are called Visual aids.
Examples : actual objects, models, pictures, charts, maps, flash cards, flannel board,
bulletin board, chalkboard, overhead projector, slides etc.
Out of these black board and chalk are the commonest ones.

2)Audio Aids
The aids that involve the sense of hearing are called Audio aids.
Examples : radio, tape recorder, gramophone etc.

3)Audio - Visual Aids


The aids which involve the sense of vision as well as hearing are called Audio-Visual
aids.
Examples : television, film projector, film strips etc.
PURPOSES OF DEVELOPING TEACHING LEARNING
MATERIALS FOR THE PRIMARY ESL CLASSROOM.
Sources of input for language learning

Used as ways of promoting output, either spoken or written

Used to provide scaffolding for learning

Used to stimulate reflection

Can be used in multiple ways , allowing for flexibility and creativity in teaching and learning

Every individual has the tendency to forget. The purpose of teaching aids helps to retain

more concept permanently.

Used to motivate the pupils through different teaching aids so they can learn better.

To develop the proper image when the students see, hear taste and smell properly.
Teaching aids provide complete example for conceptual thinking.
To create the environment of interest for the students.
To help in increasing the vocabulary of the students more effectively.
Used to provide direct experience to the students.
To avoid cramming. Teaching aids can facilitate the proper understanding to
the students which discourage cramming.
Teaching aids help to save times and money
Teaching aids make the classroom live and active and avoid dullness.

Therefore, the purposes of using teaching aid are very crucial in developing
and using resources for the primary ESL classroom especially in this 21
century learning.

Visual teaching and learning materials

Facilitate recall or retrieval of new information exposed.


Help learners to memorise quickly when information is presented in
the form of images, visual media, videos, etc.
Enhance critical and creative thinking
Improve imagination

o Solely visual aids presented are insufficient


o Pupils who are not visual learners might get distraction easily.
