UNCTAD: Principles and Functions Overview

UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) was established in 1964 to provide a forum for developing countries to discuss issues relating to economic development. Its primary objective is to formulate policies around trade, aid, transport, finance, and technology. It has 193 member countries and meets every four years. UNCTAD promotes international trade, economic development, and formulates trade principles and policies through research, policy analysis, and intergovernmental discussions and consensus building. It works to support developing countries and least developed countries.

BASIC PRINCIPLES

• No discrimination – (socio-economic system,

• To promote international trade and economic development of less
developed and developing countries.
