Understanding Tax and Depreciation Methods

- Ad valorem taxes are property taxes or import duties based on value. Property taxes are a major source of revenue for state and local governments. - Depreciation is the loss in value of an asset over time due to factors like wear, deterioration, obsolescence, and reduced demand. It can be measured by graphing the market value over time. - Depreciation accounting systematically allocates the depreciable value of a capital investment over its useful life. It aims to estimate current asset value or maximize tax benefits through legal guidelines.
