Common questions

Powered by AI

If a motherboard fails to boot and displays 'FF' or '00', specific steps include ensuring fundamental operating voltages like Vcore, checking RSTCON # signal voltage, verifying the South Bridge's frequency and signals such as ICHPCIRST #, and debugging with a focus on BIOS signals like PCICLK_FWH and FWH_IC. If necessary, replacement of components like the AS-016 chip, South Bridge, or BIOS may be required .

If the South Bridge supply is abnormal, begin by checking supply voltage lines like 3VSB and related signal frequencies such as 14Mhz and 33Mhz. If any of these are incorrect, it could necessitate replacement of the South Bridge. Verify connected components, like oscillators and chips such as AS-016, are functional with proper voltages. If troubleshooting reveals no issues with direct power supply lines, indirect components affecting the South Bridge may need examination and replacement .

Improper power issues related to the 32KHZ oscillator may manifest as a failure to issue signals like SLP_S3. To address them, first check if the oscillator is receiving voltage and capable of oscillating. If not oscillating, replace the oscillator. If there is no voltage, check the diode values and the 3VSB supply to the South Bridge. Ensuring these components and signals are normal may resolve the issue .

The CPU is protected from overheating by a schematic involving the DXP detection signal connected to a thermistor. This setup allows the system to detect if the CPU temperature exceeds its limit. If it does, the Fengyun IC turns off the system power to prevent damage to the CPU due to overheating .

For a PC-DL motherboard with a debug lock on FF, check vital signals such as the BIOS's ICHPCIRST # and PCICLK_FWH for normalcy. Use an oscilloscope to measure frequencies like 33Mhz. Evaluate the BIOS connections to LPC and FWH modes, ensure the FWHHINIT # signal is functioning, and verify LAD0-LAD3 signals. If all are normal and the issue persists, replace the BIOS .

If the CPU does not function, check the Vcore voltage and lines. Ensure CPU signals like CPUPWROK and CPU_RST # are normal. Verify the South Bridge working conditions, and if there are issues with CPU_RST #, investigate the North Bridge's voltage and frequency, and the HUB-LINK between bridges. If these checks do not resolve the issue, consider replacing the South or North Bridge as necessary .

The ASUS chip might need replacement if the RSMRST # signal is not normal, and after confirming that all voltage supplies to the chip like 3VSB, 5VSB, and BAT are okay. Also, if the chip fails to function properly after verifying other components' signals and supplies, replacing it might resolve the issue .

To evaluate the effectiveness of the CPU's TESTHI signal, ensure that the signal is correct, which influences the CPU's operation. Check the CPU and associated components for Vcore voltage and lines, confirming the signal is not causing the CPU's malfunction. A failure in the TESTHI signal is often indicative of deeper issues within the CPU's connection or power management infrastructure, necessitating detailed examination and potential component replacement .

To verify if the graphics card protection circuit is functioning, you need to check the PSON # by using a multimeter to measure the electricity from the PSON # to the graphics card protection circuit. It's crucial to confirm that signals like PWR_PSON # are acting properly. If the protection circuit is not working, this might be due to issues like an improper action of the protection circuit or associated signals not being issued correctly .

The primary maintenance steps for addressing power-on issues include checking power signals like 5VSB, 3VSB, and PWRBTN # to ensure they are okay. If PSON # is pulled low but power is still not supplied, this might indicate a short circuit on the motherboard. The investigation should focus on ensuring there are no shorts in +12V, +5V, +3V, and Vcore lines. Depending on the chipset, further checks might include PWR_PSON # and PSON # signals, oscillators, and related components like the South Bridge or ASUS chips .
