What is TRAINING

In simple words, training is


imparting specific skills, abilities, and
knowledge to an employee.
More clearly, It is an
attempt to improve current or future
employee’s performance by changing
employee attitude or increasing his skills
and knowledge.

Analyzing Training Needs
Need analyzing diagnose present problem
and future challenges to be met through training and
development. It has basically two main assessment
methods:-
 Task and KSA Analysis: For ‘new employees’
assessing and identifying what tasks are needed
on each job and which knowledge skills and
abilities(KSA) are needed to perform this task.
 Performance analysis: For ‘current employees, it is
the process of verifying that there is a performance
deficiency and determining if such deficiency
should be corrected through training or any
other means.

Training methods are categorized into two


groups:-
 On The Job Method
Refers to method that
are applied in the work place.
 Off The Job Method
Refers to the methods
that are used away from workplace.

Once the course has been
designed it has to be implemented. Programmed
implementation includes action of the following
lines:-

 Deciding the location and organising training and


other facilities.
 Scheduling the training program.
 Conducting the program.
 Monitoring the program.
EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAMME

Need for evaluation:


 To determine whether training
programmes are accomplishing training
objectives.
 To determine the cost effectiveness.
 To increase credibility of training
 To ensure that change in trainee
capabilities is due to training
CRITERIA FOR
EVALUATION
 Training Validity: Did the trainee learned during
the training?
 Transfer validity: What has been learned in the
training, has been it transferred to the job? Has it
enhanced performance?
 Intra-organisational validity: Is performance of
the new group of trainees, consistent with the
performance of original training group?
 Inter-organisational validity: can a training
program validated in one firm can be used in
another company?

 Using experimental and control groups
Comparison of experimental group
and control groups performance.
 Time Series Analysis
Taking measure of the performance
before and after the program and analysing both.
 Questionnaire
To collect opinion about the program.
 Cost-Benefit comparison
To analyse wether the cost incurred
in training yields similar benefits.
