Locations
A Location is any fixed point on the earth which is of
interest, e.g.
Plants
Distribution Centres
Suppliers and Customers
Air and Sea Ports
OTM needs to know the Lat/Long of a location to
estimate distances between locations.
OTM can look up Lat/Long if it is given city, state or
province or postal code.
Corporations
A OTM Corporation is used to group Locations
together:
Every location in GC3 must belong to a Corporation
A Corporation can have any number of locations
For example:

Calendars
Used to specify when activities can or cant be
performed. E.g. Permitted loading time at a location.
Two Types of Calendars in OTM
Cyclical
Loop for Set time interval (usually 1 or 7 day)
Annual
Sequential for a year
Contacts
OTM can provide automatic notifications to anyone involved
in transportation.
The main methods used are:
Email
Fax
Message Centre
You give each communication method a rank, so if a
contact has several communication methods available, GC3
will choose the one with the highest rank that is available.
Expected response times can also be set.

Material Manager Terminology
An item in OTM represents the product or goods being
shipped.
Items are grouped into commodities a group of items with
common characteristics. In other words, they are items that
can be transported in the same way e.g. they all use the
same transport equipment and temperature control.
Items can be packaged in one or more ways as packaged
items.
A transport handling unit is a platform that helps goods
handling, e.g. a pallet

Equipment Groups
Equipment Groups identify the different kinds of
equipment (such as dry vans, flatbed trucks, container
cars, hoppers, tankers, box cars, and so on) that are
used to transport shipments from one location to
another.

Equipment Group Profiles
Equipment Group Profiles are a super-group of
equipment sharing a common characteristic, e.g.
length.
They can be assigned to commodities, locations,
rates, itineraries and orders to define what type of
equipment must (or must not) be used.
Equipment Group Profiles are built up from one or
more Equipment Groups.

Equipment Compatibility
Equipment Group Profiles have a compatible check box.
If compatible check box is ticked, then only equipment
from this profile can be used.
If compatible check box is not ticked, then any
equipment, not included in this profile, can be used.

Service Providers
Service Provider is a generic term used for any
company that provides transportation or related
services.
When you create a Service Provider a login is created
for them in the SERVPROV domain. This allows them
to view shipments they are responsible for, notify you of
events on those shipments and accept tenders.
OTM can communicate with Service Providers by email,
message centre, or fax. Alternatively, you can
communicate with them by phone, and input the results
into OTM.

Rates
A rate is the means by which OTM calculates the
expected transportation cost for goods.
Correct configuration of rates is important to ensure
that OTM selects the correct Service Providers and is
needed to enable efficient and correct(!) payment.

Rates can accommodate simple or complex formulas and
various attributes to meet just about any industry
practice, such as:
Effective and expiration dates
Freight limitations
Accessorials
Weight, volume, and distance breaks

GC3 Rates are comprised of four key components:
Rate Distance determines the distance from one location to
another.
Rate Service determines the time required to transport goods
from one location to another.
Rate Offering contains contract level data specific to a
service provider.
Rate Record contains specific costing data from one place to
another.

Components of an Itinerary
Lane Specifies the originating source and final
destination of an itinerary. It can be as broad as
Country to Country or as specific as Location to
Location. It can also be any combination of these: e.g.
Belgium to Ford Engine Plant Dagenham (Country to
Location).
Leg is the origin and destination of a shipment stage.
An itinerary can one or more legs.
