VTEC
VTEC is (Variable Valve Timing and Lift
Electronic Control), an evolution of Honda
The VTEC engine works by controlling the
timing and lifting of the camshafts depending
on engine speeds.
NEED OF VTEC
excellent fuel efficiency
superb performance
cleaner emissions
driving comfort
The General diagram of
four stroke IC engine
Working of VTEC
VTEC(Variable Valve Timing and Lift
Electronic Control) is Honda engines
having multiple camshafts
At low RPM ,the valves opens less for
lower fuel consumption.
At high RPM, the valve opening is
more for high power.
Key advantages of
VTEC
Class-leading power and fuel efficiency.
High performance and low fuel
consumption in a single engine.
VTEC regulates the opening of air-fuel
intake valves and exhaust valves in
accordance with engine speeds.
Regulates valve opening to match
engine speed.
Disadvantages
Higher cost of engine
More complex mechanism
Wear and Tear problems
Failed to overcome turbo charging
Decreased engine life
Scope For Further Development
Use of different fuels for zero
emissions and better engine
performance
Lowering the cost
VTEC remains one of the most
important solutions to balancing low
emissions
It also stand for high performance
Conclusion
VTEC system is more sophisticated than
earlier variable-valve-timing systems
By contrast, the VTEC setup can alter
both camshaft duration and valve lift
VTEC Technology gives us the best in
vehicle performance.
Fuel economy is increased
Emissions are reduced
Derivability is enhanced and power is
improved.
